Darien council approves consent agenda including police equipment and policy subscriptions

The Darien City Council on June 17 approved a consent agenda that included membership dues to a regional enforcement group, a one-year law enforcement policy-manual subscription and equipment and outfitting for 12 patrol cars.

Treasurer Michael requested approval of warrant number 24254 covering payroll and listed funds for the period ending June 13; the council voted to approve the warrant. The clerk recorded the roll call and all seven members voted in favor.

The consent agenda contained the following items read in abbreviated form by the clerk and approved by motion: waivers of the $50-per-day fee for temporary liquor licenses for the Darien Chamber of Commerce (for the Darien Fest and concert series); approval of annual membership dues to the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group; a one-year Lexipol LLC law-enforcement policy manual subscription; acceptance of a proposal to outfit 12 patrol cars with parts and labor; and an ordinance amending Title 5A zoning regulations for a mixed-use district. During the meeting the mayor noted that items involving police spending were passed unanimously through the police committee.

Council voted on the consent motion by roll call; the clerk recorded seven 'yes' votes and the motion carried. The council did not provide clear, unambiguous dollar totals for every listed item in the verbal record; the transcript numbers were garbled. Where dollar amounts were unclear on the record, the council packet or minutes should be consulted for exact figures.

The council moved on to new business after approving the consent agenda.
