Morristown swears in two promoted officers: Mark Paplowski to lieutenant, Michael Cerak to sergeant

Two Morristown Police Bureau promotions were formalized at the May 26 meeting when Lieutenant Mark Paplowski and Sergeant Michael Cerak were sworn into their new ranks.
A Department of Public Safety representative spoke in support of the promotions and turned the ceremony over to Captain Joe Humeman, who read each officer’s service background before administering the oath. Paplowski’s record noted prior service in the security industry, an associate degree in criminal justice, hiring by the Morristown Police Department in 2015, patrol and detective assignments, nominations for life-saving and exceptional duty awards, and recent promotion to lieutenant where he will serve in the patrol division and act as day-watch commander.
Michael Cerak was sworn in as sergeant; the ceremony included family in attendance. Both officers repeated the oath to support the U.S. and New Jersey constitutions and to perform duties of their offices to the best of their ability.
Captain Joe Humeman presided for Chief Richardson, who was not present, and council members congratulated the officers after the oath.
Next steps: Promotions take effect per department procedures and the officers will assume the duties described during the ceremony.
