Naugatuck updates downtown remediation, Water Street discontinuance and land transfers

Officials said the sanitary sewer line was completed in January, multiple buildings were reconnected and sidewalks and amenities are now under construction; Church Street work is on track for a June completion. The mayor said work on the Industrial Park and new parking areas is underway and that the overall construction schedule is slightly ahead of original estimates.
The board authorized the mayor to execute contracts and related documents to discontinue the town portion of Water Street where the state will site a train platform and provide 80 parking spaces; the board noted the roadway will continue across state land but the town’s official Water Street designation will change. The board also referred multiple lots and subdivisions to the Planning Commission under Conn. Gen. Stat. §8‑24 and authorized sales and transfers pending favorable Planning reports.
Separately, the board adopted a municipal resolution supporting a $2,150,000 Brownfield grant application for phase two of the Penrose remediation project and approved applying for $200,000 to assess the Hershey property at 889 New Haven Road to inform future redevelopment plans.
