The Pekin City Council voted to award a demolition contract and to grant additional spending authority for the Court Street rehabilitation project after staff reported unexpected pavement damage uncovered during milling.
Staff recommended awarding the Court Street residential demolition project to River City Demolition to remove two full structures and complete a partial demolition at 909 Court Port Street. The city received two bids and staff recommended the low bidder. Council approved the award.
Separately, staff reported the Court Street rehabilitation contract (originally awarded at about $9.96 million) is nearing completion but additional concrete patching and pavement work was required after the northern half was milled. Staff said the engineer has already authorized roughly $140,000 in contingency spending and anticipates patching costs could be up to $210,000 over contract, for a total potential contract overage of $350,000. The city engineer requested an additional $150,000 in spending authority to complete the patching; council approved the extra authority.
Council members also discussed accounting corrections: moving sewer-related portions of project costs into the sewer fund, which staff said would more accurately reflect the asset accounting and free up road-fund cash. Josie and other staff said the northern half of Court Street has been milled and patched and that paving would resume the following day.
Council action: demolition award approved; additional $150,000 spending authority for Court Street patching approved.
