The Grant County Drainage Board voted May 26 to schedule public hearings for three drainage petitions on July 14, 2026. The board agreed that a 30–40 day legal notice period required the later date and instructed staff to mail assessment rolls and notices in time for the hearings.
Board members said they will combine the Fowler, Lomax and Heimlich items on July 14 if the paperwork is ready. “July 14th is what we’re asking,” the chair said when members moved and seconded the hearing dates; each motion carried. The board also noted that Madison County declined a joint board for the Fowler assessment, and Delaware County had not yet responded, which shaped how the assessment roll and notice would be prepared.
Engineering staff and the surveyor were asked to finalize assessment rolls and maps before notices are mailed. Nathan, the surveyor, was identified as working on the Long Branch watershed map to support the Heimlich assessment roll. Clerk Mary was asked to ensure mailings meet the 30-day legal requirement so the July 14 date can stand.
The scheduling decision leaves time for property owners to review assessment materials and for the board to gather additional site information. The board said it would accept written materials and updated maps at or before the hearings and will make final decisions on whether to accept or deny each petition at those public sessions.
