The board also discussed posting school capacity and open-enrollment status on the district website and asked staff to consult the trust service on feasibility and statutory requirements.
Special-services items included adding the director of special services to Section 504 responsibilities and clarifying progress-monitoring expectations; staff noted Section 504 requires review as needed rather than an annual review. Gifted-services eligibility and program models prompted a lengthy exchange: board members noted historical use of pullout models versus classroom enrichment approaches and asked staff to ensure policy aligns with funding and program realities.
Library and materials policy drew sustained attention. The board asked staff to clarify responsibilities where the district contracts with the Yavapai Library Network (YLN) and to identify what the district can control for materials accessed through district accounts versus personal library cards. Staff will review the YLN agreement to determine operational authority over acquisitions, removals and parental review requests and will incorporate that clarification into the policy draft.
Trust items that had multiple options were resolved in some places (district selections were recorded) and left for further review in others. No final policy votes were taken; the board asked staff and the trust to produce a consolidated, marked-up draft for the June 11 meeting.
