The presenter said the town originally applied for $800,000 and received an additional $200,000 because project costs increased. He estimated total project costs at roughly $2.4 million, saying it could reach about $3 million by completion. The scope includes about 8,200 feet (about 1.5 miles) of water line in the Ferrytown/Berrytown area; the work is intended to replace undersized lines so customers will have adequate pressure for domestic use and so fire hydrants will function properly.
Council members asked for a precise mileage total for the town's triple-community water system and asked staff to return with specific mileages to include in the next meeting packet. Staff confirmed the project must remain in the town's capital improvement plan if grant funding were not available.
The council did not vote to accept funds during this preliminary discussion; the Oct. 6 public hearing will address formal acceptance and any conditions required by the grant process.
