Rio Grande City’s finance staff presented the independent auditor’s report for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2025, and the commission voted to accept the audit during the March 24 meeting.
Staff read the auditor’s summary, saying the audit was conducted "in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and government auditing standards" and that the city received a clean audit opinion with "no findings" or internal‑control deficiencies. The report highlighted the general fund, EDC and water fund balances and noted the EDC fund balance increased while the general fund balance decreased modestly year‑over‑year.
"I'm happy to say that the city received a clean audit with no findings," staff said, adding that the general fund balance and EDC balances appear on the report pages. Commissioners approved formally accepting the audit and recorded a roll call vote. Staff said acceptance clears the way to complete routine annual steps including tax‑rate adoption and referenced recent state law (SB1851) that affects deadline timing for municipalities’ audits.
The audit package will be filed with appropriate state offices and made available to commissioners and the public as required.
