Commission delays artifact-display grant submission until curator and storyline are secured

Chairman Arlene Fiano said the commission will delay submitting a grant application for an exhibit of Digging for History artifacts until the group secures a curator and a clear storyline for the materials. The commission had been preparing an application to Connecticut Humanities but was advised by a representative to wait until May because the grant requires curatorial support and a narrative framework.
Arlene said staff have contacted a curator at the Woods Museum in Windsor and e-mailed two other curators to obtain approximate curation and storyline costs. She also instructed staff to remove the words “climate-controlled” from the proposed display-case description. Treasurer Cara Wraight and other members have been assisting with planning and the grant timeline, with a formal submission now scheduled for May.
The delay does not change the commission’s intent to pursue the artifact exhibit, but it does push the formal application beyond the February grant window so the proposal can include curator input and a cohesive interpretive plan. The commission said it will return to the topic after the curator outreach yields cost and storyline details.
