Brick Township swears in nine police officers in promotion ceremony

A March council meeting in Brick Township opened with a ceremony swearing in nine police officers to new ranks, including Deputy Chief Hank Drew and several captains, lieutenants and sergeants.

The event began when Council President Amberino invited Chief Forest and Mayor Crate to the podium and framed the evening as a recognition of “dedication, perseverance, and honorable service.” Chief Forest introduced each promoted officer by reciting career highlights and family acknowledgements.

Deputy Chief Hank Drew, a Brick resident and Brick Memorial High School graduate, was presented as taking command of the administrative division after a department career beginning in 1995 that included narcotics assignments, work in internal affairs, and service as EMS supervisor. Captain Paul Catalina — previously a K-9 handler and internal affairs officer — was sworn in to lead community policing. Captain J. Matthews (sworn in as operations division commander) and Lieutenants Scott Durking and Joe Pacidi were among other promoted command officers introduced.

The council also recognized several sergeants promoted to shift and supervisory duties, including Sergeants Chris Jookum, Anthony Barlowski, Joe Duca and Kevin Dockerty. Each officer recited the oath of office during on-stage swearing and family members were invited forward for photographs and applause.

Mayor Crate and council members offered congratulations and thanked department staff and families for their support. No formal council action was required beyond the ceremonial oath and public acknowledgment.

The meeting moved afterward to budget presentations and the remainder of the council agenda.
