Fullerton board approves closed-session settlements, CFD tax levies and MOUs; laundromat MOU approved with one abstention

At its May 19 meeting, the Fullerton School District board recorded several formal actions and votes.
Closed-session disclosures: President Ruthie Hanchett reported the board approved three closed-session settlements by a 5–0 vote: student case 2026020591 (not to exceed $22,750); student case ending 762 (not to exceed $3,400); and an employee settlement for employee number 5796 (not to exceed $89,000).
Consent and agenda items: Trustees approved the consent agenda after pulling two items. Item LL (an organizational gift/partnership item) was approved with one abstention from a board member who had a prior involvement; item F (a contract with OC Grip) was tabled to the June 9 meeting to allow additional review because vendor contracting and staffing timelines require more lead time.
Resolutions and MOUs: The board adopted Resolution 2627 (CFD-40-01, Vandale area) and Resolution 2526 (CFD-48-01, Amerige Heights) authorizing the levying of special taxes for those community facilities districts; both passed on roll-call votes recorded as 5–0. Trustees also approved a memorandum of understanding to continue a full-time release option for the FEA president (district and CTA share costs).
Laundry program MOU: Trustees approved an MOU with the Giving Children Hope Foundation and the Estrella Family Foundation to accept six donated washers and dryers for selected school sites and to fund installation work (estimated plumbing/electrical costs around $5,000 per site, approximately $30,000 total). Trustee Estrella disclosed service on the Estrella Foundation board and abstained from the vote; the motion carried with one abstention. Trustees discussed logistics, site selection and maintenance responsibilities before approval.
The board will vote on the 2027–28 pupil attendance calendar at the June 9 meeting after staff incorporate minor corrections and stakeholder input.
