Fullerton plans summer supports for more than 3,000 students; Encore camp enrolls about 2,300

District staff presented summer offerings that enroll more than 3,000 students across camps and programs: an Encore six-week camp with roughly 2,300 registered, Extended Play online with about 700 registrants, plus ESY, Summer Stage, GATE and partner-run arts camps and family supports including Dolphin Market and telehealth counseling.
Fullerton School District staff briefed trustees May 19 on a suite of summer programs and family supports intended to close gaps and provide childcare for working families.
"Collectively we have over 3,000 students enrolled in our summer programs," Jason Chong said, describing Encore Summer Camp (June 8–July 17) which will run daily 8 a.m.–5 p.m., provide breakfast and lunch and offer transportation to host sites. Chong said the program had about 2,300 students registered and that staff continued to accommodate late requests where feasible.
Extended Play, a largely asynchronous online learning option that began during the pandemic, had roughly 700 students registered and offers K–7 academic content, including math in Spanish. Phil Ling described Summer Stage theater, arts camps run by the district’s foundation, and a free speech-and-debate camp that concludes with a mock tournament.
Special-education Extended School Year (ESY) services were scheduled June 2–29 for students on IEPs who qualify. Staff also previewed thematic EL Jumpstart units integrated into Encore and said GATE Summer Scholars and other enrichment options will run at selected sites.
On family supports, staff reported a continuing Dolphin Market food-distribution effort, back-to-school supplies with appointments, and telehealth counseling available through Daybreak and Hazel Health for eligible students. Trustees and staff emphasized equity of access and that host-site busing helps families across the district attend.
