Trustees and administrators spent significant time discussing boundary maps and the inter-district permit process tied to the Felton school consolidation.
Administrators said the new boundaries are primarily for transportation and enrollment planning after the district reduced elementary schools from five to four. Parents may request transfers via a one-page form; placements will be based on space availability and timestamped for first-come, first-served consideration. Administrators said the district intends to prioritize siblings of special education students for placement.
Trustees asked for written clarification of the intra-district and inter-district permit process; staff said a letter to Felton parents explaining the application process had already been sent.
Separately, the board discussed vendors and contracts intended to maintain student culture and inclusion during the consolidation. Playworks — which places recess coaches at campuses and trains junior coaches — was described as providing trained staff at each school and inclusive playground programming. Playworks representatives have worked with the district for several years and were identified as a resource to support peer inclusion as students move between sites.
The board also approved use of a C‑MAS piggyback for a playground vendor (Dave Bang) to expedite procurement; trustees said the approach saved time because another district’s competitively-bid contract can be used directly.
Board members emphasized the need to maintain Felton’s positive school culture during the transition and suggested bridge committee engagement with coaches and community partners to replicate successful practices at receiving campuses.
