Freetown Select Board approves routine appointments, contracts and donations; grants update reported

At its Jan. 5 meeting the Freetown Select Board approved a package of routine items: open-session minutes from December meetings; the 2025–26 snowplow operator application for Benjamin Goldstein; multiple appointments to committees and town positions; and several short-term agreements.
The board voted to approve an agreement with Kimber(ly) Fails to provide departmental support through Dec. 31, 2026, and to approve a single lump-sum holiday payout for Kori/Cory Cubic consistent with the collective bargaining agreement. Members also acknowledged the resignation of highway mechanic Kenneth Plays effective Dec. 22, 2025 and thanked him for his service.
The board accepted donations to the Council on Aging from the Freetown Pitch Club ($85) and the Be Tuesday Club ($100).
Chair reported two grant developments: the town submitted a library grant application (Dec. 31 deadline) and staff secured a $100,000 grant to construct a temporary roundabout at Gurney and County to address safety concerns; the board asked staff to return with formal details and a plan for pole relocation if needed.
All routine approvals passed by voice vote; staff will carry forward the agreements, appointment paperwork and grant planning items for implementation.
