The Kenner City Council approved a zoning amendment, planning case PUD 126, to permit the construction of an approximately 200-square-foot office and to allow a contractor's office, shop and storage yard at lot 31B, Square 159 in the Kenner Heights subdivision (1718 18th Street).
Planning staff summarized the application, saying the site was previously authorized under special ordinance 11,044 (adopted March 3, 2016) for a warehouse and office. The applicant, identified in the meeting as James Mohammed, notified property owners within 250 feet, held a neighborhood meeting on Dec. 8, 2025 and reported two neighbors attended with no objections. The planner said existing parking and landscaping meet city requirements and the planning commission recommended approval at its Feb. 25 meeting.
Council discussion was brief. Council Member Schwar voiced support, and Council Member La Hat said he would abstain from the vote because of a prior attorney-client relationship with the applicant. With one abstention recorded, the council approved the amendment.
