Beexley City Council approved several measures May 26 and took action to continue deliberation on a proposed noise ordinance.
On third reading the council adopted Ordinance 07‑26, which appropriates $120,000 from the general fund to the grants and donations account to provide supplemental appropriations for recently awarded grants. The ordinance, introduced by Council Member Marcelino, was approved by roll call on third reading.
The council also adopted Ordinance 08‑26, which amends section 1026.08 to permit planting shrubs in public spaces. The revision was reviewed by the Tree and Public Gardens Commission and passed on third reading after a roll call.
On a separate, longer item, council members discussed a proposed update to the city’s noise ordinance. After debate over weekday evening hours and enforcement approach (including whether to include nonbinding decibel guidance for enforcement consistency), council voted to adopt the most recent working draft as the basis for further edits and tabled the ordinance to allow additional community review and chief/police input.
Other items on the consent and first‑reading calendars were discussed, including ordinances related to special assessments for a former gas station site and zoning items; council set a special meeting date (June 26) to allow an applicant for a bed‑and‑breakfast ordinance change to present in person.
Votes at a glance: - Ordinance 07‑26 (appropriation $120,000): passed (roll call recorded in meeting minutes). - Ordinance 08‑26 (amend prohibited species to allow shrubs): passed (roll call recorded). - Noise ordinance (amended working draft): adopted as working document and tabled for further revision.
The council adjourned following a brief executive session on property purchase/sale matters.
