Reno‑Tahoe Airport Authority outlines multiyear 'More RNO' expansion, new concourses and ground transportation center

Chris Jensen, interim president and CEO of the Reno‑Tahoe Airport Authority, briefed the Sparks City Council on the authority's More RNO capital program, describing near‑term construction and longer‑term concourse projects.

Jensen said the authority serves a catchment area of about one million people and noted recent passenger gains: "Month of April was the busiest April we've had in 19 years," he said, attributing growth to tourism and local economic diversification.

He outlined completed enabling work (road improvements and ticketing expansion) and ongoing projects: a new airport police and administration headquarters expected mid‑2027; a ground transportation center being built with Conrac Solutions to free up about 600 parking spaces (expected late‑2028); and two new concourses (Gen A south concourse due 2028; Gen B north concourse due 2029). Jensen described a phased construction sequence that allows the airport to operate existing gates while building new outboard concourses.

Jensen also said the authority plans to expand concession space with separate packages for local small vendors and national brands, to dedicate funding for public art across projects, and to pursue additional destinations and seasonal services. He answered council questions on phasing, cargo trends and customer‑experience features such as outdoor terraces and larger restrooms.

Council members thanked Jensen and raised follow‑up requests for cargo tonnage figures, which Jensen offered to provide.
