Falls Township supervisors approved an October‑to‑November action on Nov. 24 to authorize an online reverse auction for electricity procurement, a procurement method staff said could reduce the township’s rate by roughly 18–20%.
Mr. Shepard explained the auction, to be administered by Mantis Energy, invites suppliers to bid against one another in real time, driving the price down. He said the township’s four electric accounts currently average about $0.1056 per kilowatt‑hour; the auction will present options for 12‑, 18‑ and 24‑month contracts depending on the bids received. The board approved the resolution (2025‑29) authorizing the auction to proceed.
Staff said the township can choose among the terms that offer the best savings and that natural gas procurement may be considered separately in the future. The authorization allows staff to proceed with the single‑day auction and return to the board to accept any contract that meets the township’s targets.
