Hollis board thanks responders after missing resident found alive

Select Board members on July 2 publicly thanked first responders and community volunteers after a Hollis resident who had been missing for more than 24 hours was located alive and conscious.
"Thanks to tireless efforts from our first responders and search teams, the resident was found alive late Monday morning, conscious and alert in a wooded area not far from his home," Select Board member Mike Hanwa said. Board members praised the Maine Warden Service, local police (including Chief Chris Young), the Hollis Fire Department, neighboring departments, Cumberland County Sheriff's Department, forest rangers, York County Emergency Management and search-and-rescue dogs.
Members said the coordinated response and respectful community behavior'not congregating at scene areas when asked'helped search teams and likely aided the successful outcome. Board members encouraged exploration of protective options for vulnerable residents, naming Project Lifesaver as an example of GPS-based identification technology.
The board also commended neighbors who checked yards and helped direct searchers, and acknowledged the emotional relief felt across the community as the resident was taken to hospital and later reunited with family.
What comes next: board members encouraged continued community support for vulnerable residents and to consider tools and programs that reduce future risk.
