Uniontown City Council approves Sunrise Meadows final plat and Tarragon annexation, rejects other annexation; OKs VFW lease amendment

Uniontown’s City Council on May 11 approved a package of land-use and facility items that will shape near-term development and temporary senior-center operations.

Staff told the council that Sunrise Meadows LLC and JMP 2 Properties met the conditions of an earlier preliminary plat and had installed the required infrastructure, posted performance and maintenance bonds, and supplied the necessary certificates for a 28‑lot subdivision. “Staff is recommending that the city council find that all the improvements and other requirements for final plat approval for the final map for Sunrise Meadows Subdivision have been met,” said Chris Bass, the staff presenter. The council approved Resolution 18‑75 to accept the final plat by voice vote.

Council also considered two annexation petitions. For Resolution 18‑76 (the Kazer/Khazir Mezic annexation), staff reported that the initial filing included two parcels and staff recommended modifying the petition to include additional parcels—bringing the total to about 11 properties and roughly 20 acres with an estimated 2026 assessed valuation near $5,000,000. After discussion, the motion on Resolution 18‑76 failed to pass.

By contrast the council approved Resolution 18‑77, the Tarragon annexation, after staff described the petition (modified to six parcels, approximately 18 acres and an estimated valuation of about $4,000,000). The applicant offered to reimburse consultant and review costs to reduce staff burden; council approved the annexation on a 5–1 voice vote.

Separately, the council approved Resolution 18‑78, a second amendment to the city’s lease with VFW Post 1949 to provide temporary, largely exclusive use of the VFW hall (June 1–Sept. 30) so the Enumclaw Senior Center can continue programming during renovations. Parks Director Alina Hibbs said the city will compensate the VFW $6,800 from the project budget and will absorb minor ADA improvements to the hall; no additional city funds were required.

What happens next: The Sunrise Meadows final plat approval allows staff to proceed with recordation and required follow-up inspections per the city’s subdivision code. The approved Tarragon annexation will proceed to the boundary-review and statutory notice steps required by state law. The council did not adopt any immediate changes to policies tied to annexation process costs; applicants’ offers to reimburse review expenses were noted during discussion.
