Devine council asks staff to pursue traffic-safety changes with TxDOT and to seek park shade proposals

During its June 18 meeting the Devine City Council directed staff to pursue three safety and amenity items: contact the Texas Department of Transportation about adding a traffic signal on State Hwy 173 at the FM 3176 corridor, request a speed limit reduction from 45 to 35 mph on the east side of the tracks, and have the Parks & Recreation Board obtain proposals for adding a pavilion or canopies at Curcio Park.
Alderman Michael Hernandez raised the requests, noting pedestrian and vehicular safety concerns at the Hwy 173 corridor. The council voted to have City Administrator David L. Jordan contact TxDOT about both the traffic signal and the posted speed limit. Alderwoman Debbie Randall moved that the Curcio Park canopy/pavilion item be sent to the Parks & Recreation Board to seek proposals and cost estimates.
The council did not commit city funds for a traffic signal nor set a timeline for TxDOT responses; the park request was a referral for the board to gather proposals and report back to council.
