Cedar Lake Plan Commission approves multiple site plans, sets bond pull dates and defers one gas-station plan

The Cedar Lake Plan Commission met Jan. 21 and approved a series of site plans and preliminary plats while setting deadlines for several expiring letters of credit.
The commission approved a site-plan waiver for Pinto Concrete (12644 Wicker Avenue) with conditions limiting combined vehicle and material occupancy to 20 spaces, requiring preservation and maintenance of the southern vegetative screen and fence, and paving an entrance road from the fence/gate area. The motion carried on a roll-call vote, 6-0.
Commissioners approved a contingent site-plan and final-plat package for the Quick Run gas station at Lake View Business Park after amending the motion to require the electrical/site electrical plan submission before building permits are issued. Staff said they would not sign off on any permits until the town engineer and building department complete the outstanding review. Both the site-plan motion (amended to include the electrical contingency) and the final-plat motion carried, 6-0.
A preliminary plat amendment for the Winding Creek subdivision (lot amendment) was approved following staff confirmation that easements and technical items were in order.
The commission set pull dates for several expiring letters of credit to protect the town if banks did not renew: Crown Point Community School Corporation's letter will be pulled Feb. 12, 2026 if not renewed; another Cedar View performance letter was given a pull date of Feb. 8, 2026 to allow closeout activity prior to expiration; and several other maintenance/performance letters were extended or assigned new pull dates to align with project completion timelines.
Several smaller home-business and site plans, including approval for a salon at 9602 West 135th Place, were approved by roll call.
One item, a development at 13795/13775 Wicker Avenue, was deferred earlier in the meeting so the town engineer could complete a fuller review of the submittal materials.
Motions were passed by roll-call votes recorded in the meeting minutes; staff and applicants were directed to return with required submittals or to notify the town once outstanding items are resolved.
