The district DEI committee presented a stakeholder‑facing "theory of change" intended to translate findings from an equity audit into concrete actions and measurable outcomes.
The presentation explained two parallel pathways: historic awareness (intellectual understanding of marginalized histories and story sharing) and community building (relationship and practice‑based strategies). Root causes identified included active listening, access to resources and leadership opportunities. The framework emphasizes shifting from a 'needs' orientation to an asset‑based 'relationships' orientation, with metrics such as improved school climate, reduced chronic absenteeism and increased participation in rigorous pathways.
The presenter noted the theory of change is not a new district mission but a clearer map toward equity, and credited Dr. Parsons for facilitating the work. The DEI committee will discuss next steps at its June 11 meeting, which will also feature the retiree awards at 5:00 p.m.
Next steps: the DEI committee will continue refining metrics and stakeholder communications and report progress to the full committee at future meetings.
