Resident urges storefront ordinance, raises school-capacity and park-plan concerns during public comment

Paul Atunis of Beverly Road used the public-comment period to press several local issues for the Planning Board’s attention.
Atunis asked that the planning board forward a suggestion (originally raised by another resident) for a commercial-streetfront ordinance that would encourage storefronts rather than blank facades on commercial corridors such as Kinder Kamak Road. “I would hope that something would have been said by the planning board. I wonder if it has been taken to the mayor and council. Please forward it,” he said.
Atunis also cited recent school-enrollment figures in an email from the superintendent, saying the borough currently had "7 I believe 90 students" and that the most the district had was 977, adding, "I think we have room for 187 more students." The numbers as spoken were unclear on the current exact enrollment; Atunis framed the point as a concern that affordable-housing growth could affect local schools and urged coordination between the planning board and education officials.
He additionally raised concerns about a proposed installation at Walter Sher Park that he described as three rockets placed near the gazebo and suggested the board consider park landscaping and roadway connections when planning improvements.
Atunis closed by noting a recent zoning-board meeting lacked a quorum and urging steps to improve attendance. The board closed public comment and did not take action on these citizen proposals during the Feb. 3 meeting.
