Neighbor voices concern as developer seeks Iowa Utilities Commission review for solar project

Jean Wagner, who lives east of town, told the board she and other neighbors received a pamphlet about a proposed solar project and were concerned the developer planned to seek approval from the Iowa Utilities Commission rather than work through the Board of Supervisors.
“We feel like the effect to the neighbors — we need to be at least talked to and explained how it’s going to benefit us,” Wagner said. She asked whether project plans address runoff, noting much of the site drains toward neighbors’ properties, and said printed exhibits were not available for residents without internet access.
Wagner said she had spoken with a man named Caleb Easter, who she said represents the project; he told her the developers intend to present at the board’s June 9 meeting. Board members said John Huff had called supervisors to give notice and that developers would be asked to present so neighbors could hear project details and ask questions.
Supervisors and staff said they would notify adjacent landowners and arrange a public presentation. The board also discussed ensuring printed materials are available at the courthouse or library for residents without internet access.
