York County Regional Police announces entry into 287(g) agreement with ICE; board informed

The York County Regional Police Department announced at the board meeting that on March 18 it voted to enter a 287(g) agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The department statement said the agreement "permits the officer to detain and verify the immigration status of the person in question," and emphasized that officers will receive training and operate under department policies. The announcement said the decision followed research and consultation with government representatives and community leaders and that the board's vote was not unanimous: it passed 4–1 on the county board.
The department said participation will be limited and that officers are expected to continue following Pennsylvania law and department policies while operating under the agreement. The township meeting included an announcement of a public meeting of the York County Regional Police at 6 p.m. the following night in York Township for further discussion.
The announcement prompted no formal vote or action by the East Manchester Board of Supervisors; it was presented as an informational update.
