Board approves FY27 facility bids, hiring affirmations and master meeting schedule

The Oyster River Cooperative School District board approved a package of facility contracts for fiscal year 2027, affirmed hiring recommendations for the 2026'27 school year, and adopted the board's master meeting schedule for the coming year.
Facilities manager Mr. Toddy briefed the board on bid results and explained why some scopes were trimmed before bidding to avoid unknown repair costs. On the high-school floor project he said the original budget estimate was about $193,000 but the initial bid for a reduced scope returned at $133,000; he requested authority to approve work up to the original budgeted amount should underlying concrete or other issues require additional repairs. "I'm hoping to get approved for up to $193,750 in order that I can start putting back in some of the scope that we took out the first time," he told the board.
Board members thanked facilities staff for competitive pricing; a motion to approve the FY27 facility bids passed with seven in favor. The board also approved hiring affirmations for positions for the 2026'27 year and approved the unanimous consent agenda (which included teacher resignations) by voice vote.
The board discussed the master schedule of meeting dates, flagged a July date that falls in a heavy-vacation period, and approved the calendar for the upcoming school year.
What happens next: Facilities staff will return to the board for any contingency expenditures above the approved authorization; the administration will finalize hires and post the updated meeting schedule.
