Grayson County commissioners approved the school system's FY26–27 budget on May 28, voting to adopt a $31,389,747 total budget with a county contribution of $8,817,982 to cover required local effort and related debt service.
Staff explained that changes to the local composite index increased required local effort and altered debt-service expectations tied to school buildings. Commissioners and staff clarified that while the county approves and transmits funds, the school system writes the checks for school debt service; the county's contribution covers required payments and is incorporated into the county's general-fund budgeting.
A board member moved to approve the school budget and a second followed. The chair called for a voice vote and the motion carried when the majority signified 'I.' The board did not amend the school appropriation at the workshop.
Commissioners then moved to executive session on other matters and adjourned after routine closing motions.
