A public commenter told the Santa Fe Public Schools Board of Education that two district employees who reported student harassment have faced what he described as retaliation.
"What are the consequences for a district employee when they report instances of harassment of a student by a teacher?" the commenter, Toby Hansen, asked during public forum. He then described personnel actions he said followed the reports: reassignment of responsibilities, restrictions on contact with students, and investigatory meetings with union representation.
Hansen named the two employees he said were retaliated against as Janice Mulabati, a current principal, and Megan Goddard, an HR specialist. He said both had SFPS email accounts disabled and that an email distribution list removing members included communications about the employees. "Their SFPS email has been shut down and an email sent to members in here have been removed from that email by maid and daughter," Hansen said; he also said the employees had been asked to bring technology and badges to a district address.
Hansen said he had followed the district's reporting procedures and quoted the employee handbook language stating that the district will not tolerate retaliation and that those who fail to report discrimination or harassment may be subject to discipline.
Board members did not announce any formal response or action during the meeting. The board's public forum rules were read at the start of the period and the meeting record shows no vote or staff presentation in response to the claims during that session.
The board may follow up outside public forum or on a future agenda; the meeting transcript records the allegation and the speaker's request for clarity but does not show an immediate board investigation or staff report in the same meeting.
