Committee accepts staff reports, approves two certificates of appropriateness and hears code-enforcement concerns about abandoned vehicles

The Building & Zoning Committee accepted several staff reports for January 2026, including planning and zoning, building inspection and code-enforcement updates. Code enforcement reported issuing 396 sidewalk-shoveling violation notices after the Jan. 24–26 snow and ice event and only 27 violations after a subsequent weekend storm, and staff said a small number of initial citations remain in court.

The Board of Historical and Architectural Review matters before the committee were recommended for approval and the committee voted to approve a certificate of appropriateness for Mark Hansen, architect, to expand a kitchen at 300 Bent Road and for David Salomon, architect, for renovations at Lamont Community Center (7420 Sycamore Avenue). Motions to approve passed on voice votes with no public opposition recorded at the committee.

Commissioner Stein raised an ongoing concern about a privately owned lot at Racuses Mill and Glennside where vehicles and a newly delivered camper remain. Building-inspector Mr. Lynch reported many vehicles were moved or towed by the owner, the camper lacks identification and police are running its tag; the owner is cooperating to clear the lot and the township will work to re-secure chains or closure once cleared. In a separate citizen forum comment, a resident asked about the status of a property on BND Street; Mr. Lynch said citations continue and the court has issued a warrant for an owner who has not responded to court notices.

Residents were advised to use the township’s online report portal to flag abandoned vehicles and other nuisance concerns so code enforcement can track and act on them.
