Monee adopts levy and a streaming tax; finance staff estimates about $20,000 in additional revenue

The Village of Monee on Dec. 10 adopted its levy ordinance and approved a new streaming ("news") tax, moves the administration described as part of broader efforts to diversify municipal revenue.
Finance Trustee Rikus said the finance department will file the levy later in December for the May 1–April 30 tax year and reminded trustees of the filing deadline with Will County. The board reviewed the levy ordinance (Ordinance No. 2122) and approved it by roll call.
On the streaming tax, village staff said the ordinance (Ordinance No. 2123) would apply to streaming providers and that preliminary modeling suggests the village might collect about $20,000 annually from existing providers. Finance staff characterized that amount as modest but helpful to the village budget.
Trustees discussed the revenue projection and the need for new revenue sources so as not to increase the property tax levy further. The ordinance was approved by unanimous roll call. The finance department will implement collection and compliance procedures as required by the ordinance language.
Next steps: Finance staff will proceed with implementation and reporting; the village will include the levy and streaming tax estimates in the FY2027 budget preparations starting next month.
