"Your attacks are disparaging to the town of Indian Trail," resident Jim Latrell said during the public‑comment period, criticizing posts that he said targeted employees and elected officials. Another attendee, Michael Falenberry, said the page had repeated inaccuracies about council actions and asked for greater transparency about who is authorized to post town business online.
Mayor David Conn responded at length and read aloud passages from an independent attorney report the council had commissioned, summarizing the consultant’s finding that the digital trail and the rebranding of an earlier campaign page made it reasonable for members of the public to infer an affiliation between the Weasel Report and Councilman Todd Barber. "Those surface‑level attempts to cloud the affiliation tend to mislead the public," the mayor quoted from the report.
Council members on both sides of the controversy used their council time to defend staff and decry online attacks as corrosive; others urged that debates focus on policy. Council did not take additional disciplinary action at the meeting. Several speakers referred to two prior council censures of the same council member; the mayor and other members said the censures had not ended the online posts.
The council’s attorney‑commissioned report is a summary of investigators’ findings as read at the meeting; no criminal or court ruling was announced.
