School board says construction on track, approves hires, LTFM budget and multiple policies

Superintendent report: The superintendent told the board interior demolition is about 95% complete, new storm sewer work and underground utilities are roughly 90% complete, gym painting and stage flooring are done, and a lighting control panel and electrical switchgear remain to be installed (switchgear expected in October). Playground equipment was scheduled to ship Aug. 19; the superintendent noted the project remains within budget and positions current work to support future phases.
Personnel and hires: The board unanimously accepted the resignation of Matthew Morris as JV basketball coach (effective end of 2023-24) and approved hiring Trent Athman as the junior-high football coach for 2024-25 after roll-call votes.
Budget and policies: The board approved the FY25 LTFM proposed budget, discussing warranty lengths (roof quoted at 12 years) and how long-term numbers will shift after the construction is complete. The board also approved policy 203 (consent agendas) and policy 206 (public participation/data privacy) at third reading and scheduled additional policy readings for August and September.
Handbooks and procedures: The board approved the PK-6 and 7-12 handbooks with edits: specifically adding energy drinks to a prohibited list, clarifying "smart devices" (including earbuds and smart watches), and adding a family cap for the school musical fees.
Next steps: The administration will continue construction work, complete outstanding electrical and lighting installations, and implement approved policies and handbooks for the 2024-25 school year.
