Commissioners approve property transfer, conservation easements, EDIF awards and oyster restoration match

At its May 26 meeting, the Queen Anne's County Commissioners approved a series of administrative and funding actions.
Real estate: The board signed a deed transferring a 4.7‑acre parcel (lot 19B adjacent to 115 Vincent Street, Centreville) to the Board of Education for the Board of Education Administration building.
Conservation: Commissioners authorized execution of several CREP (Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program) easement agreements and project agreements for multiple parcels for submission to Maryland DNR; all CREP funding is from program open space with no county funding required.
Events and agreements: The board executed a memorandum of understanding with the Maryland Transportation Authority for the Bay Bridge Run scheduled for Nov. 8, 2026.
Economic development: The commission approved a $1,599 EDIF workforce grant to Tidewater Direct LLC for forklift training to upskill existing employees, and approved a conditional EDIF loan of up to $50,000 to Aging Stronger for purchase of a DEXA body‑composition device; the loan is contingent on a signed agreement and performance terms.
Subdivision and easement amendment: The board approved the termination of an existing open‑space easement and amendment to a forest conservation easement to allow dissolving cluster lots and creating a single 6‑acre slide lot in a permitted minor subdivision.
Environmental restoration: The commissioners granted $50,000 to the Wye River Oyster Program to match community contributions (about $110,000 raised) to plant spat on shell and deploy additional barges; program organizers said the combined funds will seed approximately nine acres and add filtration capacity and habitat in the Wye River sanctuary (sanctuary plantings are non‑harvestable). Bruce Able, program representative, told commissioners the group had doubled homeowner participation and emphasized the volunteer base and private fundraising used to match county funds.
