Lathrup Village councilors opened a discussion to begin revising the city administrator evaluation used for performance reviews and compensation decisions.
The city administrator noted contractual evaluation requirements tied to bonuses and salary and suggested using a revised template. Council members said the current form is repetitive and would benefit from clearer scoring criteria, narrative space and a summary of accomplishments by the administrator for the period under review.
Members discussed incorporating an ICMA template’s scoring approach while tailoring the questions to reflect council priorities. Several councilors supported a process in which the administrator completes a self-evaluation using the same template the council uses, and then the group adopts goals for the following year based on the evaluation feedback.
A council member proposed the group jointly develop a template and review it at the next study session; staff agreed to circulate drafts and noted the evaluation could generate goals that would then be discussed in a separate strategic-planning-style session if needed.
No formal adoption occurred; council directed staff and council members to prepare draft language and suggested completing the template revision at an upcoming study session.
