Salem Township supervisors open 2024 paving bids, defer award to June 19 meeting

The Salem Township Board of Supervisors opened bids for its 2024 paving installation at a special meeting on June 7, 2024 and unanimously voted to hold all bids for formal award at the supervisors’ meeting on June 19.

Supervisor Kerry Jobe moved to open bids for the project, which calls for pre-installation milling, pickup, transport and installation of a combined total of approximately 3,772 tons of Superpave asphalt compacted to a 3-inch depth on various township roads (most in the Forbes Road area). Ken Trumbetta seconded the motion; supervisors Bob Zundel, Trumbetta and Jobe voted in favor.

The meeting record lists a bid from Tresco Paving Corporation with line-item amounts by street: Rosewood Drive $103,056; Hugus Street $15,664; Kunkle Street $56,056; Keaggy Ave $48,224; General Street $30,800; and Lomison Street $22,176, for a gross bid of $275,976. The bid documents specify material types as Superpave 19.00 mm wearing SRL‑G PG 64‑22 and Superpave 19.0 mm binder SRL‑G PG 64‑22, with a combined installed tonnage of about 3,772 tons compacted to a 3‑inch depth. The record notes no volume/staging discount applied.

After opening the bids, Supervisor Ken Trumbetta moved — and Jobe seconded — a separate motion to hold all bids for further action (award or rejection) at the supervisors’ regular meeting scheduled for June 19, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.; that motion also passed unanimously.

The board also set a special meeting to open maintenance-material and used-equipment bids on June 12, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. The June 7 special meeting adjourned at 8:34 a.m.

No public objections, alternative bids, or formal award actions were recorded in the June 7 minutes; the board’s next steps on awarding the paving contract will be determined at the June 19 meeting.
