Maplewood introduces payroll classification ordinance, appoints interim CFO and previews budget workshop

The Maplewood Township Committee on February 3 adopted Ordinance 3176-26 to amend employment classifications and establish salary ranges for township staff, and introduced Ordinance 3177-26 to add an Assistant Tax Collector position with a public hearing set for Feb. 17.
Administration reported final certification of retirement payments for two police employees. Mr. Weary previewed a municipal budget workshop scheduled Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where department heads and funded community partners will present draft budgets. The administration said it expects to introduce the municipal budget in April and aim for adoption at the first May meeting.
The committee also moved to authorize a professional-services contract for interim chief financial officer services. Mr. Weary introduced Nyall Clemens, a certified municipal finance officer who has worked with staff in recent months. Clemens said the engagement is for one year and emphasized priorities including improving audit readiness, refining recordkeeping and supporting department staff. The committee approved Resolution 76-26 by roll call.
Committee members and staff urged residents to attend the budget workshop and noted department heads will be present to answer questions about line items and new initiatives.
