Bandstand nearly complete; town finalizes tree inventory and plans Arbor Day work

Tyler told the board that trades program participants have constructed built-in benches at the restored bandstand in Thomas Centennial Park and that final tasks (painting and landscaping) remain. He said staff hope to complete those items during a community rebuilding event, weather permitting, and that a rededication is being planned for May in coordination with the local school corporation.
"The trades program was in the process of putting built-in benches ... I think they completed two of them and they were working on two others," Tyler said, adding that painting and landscaping remain.
On urban forestry, staff reported the field portion of a townwide tree inventory is complete: "the total amount of trees inventoried was 5,090, 664 which were in the park," Tyler said. The inventory captures species, DBH, condition and priority markings; staff noted a concentration of silver maples in some park areas and said the inventory will support pruning priorities, removals and planting plans. Arbor Day activities are scheduled for April 25 and will include tree plantings at Thomas Centennial Park.
Paul reported park restrooms are expected to open by April 15, portable restrooms are in place, playground mulch and mowing are scheduled and seasonal staffing is underway.
