Wise River Fire District approves vehicle repairs, PPE budget and accepts donations

At its April 16 regular meeting, the Wise River Fire District #5 trustees approved a series of routine financial and equipment items intended to keep the district’s volunteer operations in service.
The board approved the March meeting minutes (4-0, motion by Liz Jones, second by Sunny Ralston) and then approved warrants and reimbursements by a 4-0 vote (motion by Chair Sunny Ralston, second by Cindy Sorich). Approved warrants included reimbursements to Chad Gochanour for vehicle repairs: $212.48 for a windshield replacement and $148.36 for a starter motor replacement; another payment to Vigilante Electric for $101.52 was also approved. Detailed receipts were provided for each expense.
Trustees approved a $150 payment to replace the starter motor for the Pintler Meadows wildlands vehicle (4-0, motion by Sunny Ralston, second by Cindy Sorich). The district noted Chad Gochanour supplied parts and did not charge for labor. Trustees also referenced a $500 parts budget for a replacement part for the WR red structure engine that had been approved at the March meeting; that fee did not include installation costs, which will be considered separately.
In a separate motion, trustees approved a $1,500 budget (shipping/handling excluded) for PPE and equipment for Pintler Meadows (4-0, motion by Cindy Sorich, second by Sunny Ralston). Approved purchases: one pair of firefighter pants, one firefighter brush shirt, two rechargeable lite boxes for the Pintler Meadows wildlands truck, and five handheld flashlights. The Wise River Volunteer Fire Company agreed to buy five full-brim style hardhats and pant leg straps; Jim Gross identified five rechargeable headlamps for local use.
The board acknowledged donations from community members Leo and Mike Wilkinson: a new hydrant stem and handle for an exterior hydrant (installation planned in spring/summer) and a donated 1,500-gallon tank/tender; trustees discussed options to make the donated tender moveable. Jim Gross reported two DNRC vehicles passed state inspection on April 8 with no citations, and he replaced a broken valve on a Type 5 wildlands truck.
Trustees received an update that no new information has come in on a possible State Farm 2026 grant; a wish list and cost estimates have been prepared and Cindy Sorich will follow up and submit if the application window opens.
The district’s next regular meeting is set for May 21, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Wise River Fire Hall.
