Staff said the payment is the largest to date and aligns with a previously approved 'not to exceed' contract amount. "This the largest payment. Um, I think after this one, we're getting close to to final," a staff speaker said while reviewing the invoice and confirming that township staff had reviewed the work performed.
Parks staff presented drone photos showing artificial turf infields either finishing the installation now or in the next day or two and said grading, fencing and restoration should complete by the end of October. Stormwater design for multi‑purpose fields is under consultant review and will be submitted to the county conservation district for NPDS permit modification; staff estimated about six weeks for that approval before work on other fields can proceed.
Staff also said the field projects are supported by roughly $1.1–$1.2 million in grant funding; once stormwater design is finalized the remaining capital needs will be placed into the 2026 capital budget. The board voted to authorize the Field Turf payment after a motion and second; the motion carried.
The meeting record shows staff and contractors working through final permitting and pre‑purchase steps with the expectation some fields could be ready for spring use, while the grass outfields will require two seasons to establish.
