The Village of Lynbrook Board of Trustees opened a public hearing at 7:42 p.m. April 13 to consider the tentative 2026–27 budget. Mayor Alan C. Beach said a copy of the tentative budget and the required local government exemption impact report are available at Village Hall and on the village website.
John G. O'Connell, the village’s Administrative Budget Officer, described the village’s reserves and fiscal posture, saying the tentative budget keeps the village ‘‘under the 2% tax cap’’ while maintaining surplus reserves of about 16.2 percent. O'Connell told the board that best-practice guidance recommends keeping at least three months of revenue in reserve.
The tentative budget documents discussed a budget total in the neighborhood of $53 million and referenced a tax-rate change described in the meeting as roughly 1.94 percent; the transcript also includes a later reference to 3.9 percent in the chair’s remarks. The board did not provide a detailed roll call vote tally in the public hearing exchange recorded in the transcript; trustees moved and approved the motion to open the hearing and subsequently approved listed budget transfers and amendments.
The board noted the tentative budget includes an exemption report for certain real property and lists the compensation schedule for elected officials. The mayor and trustees emphasized that the village’s reserve posture and strong bond rating support the budget’s financing assumptions.
Next steps: the tentative budget is available for public inspection at Village Hall during regular business hours and online; the public hearing remains the formal opportunity for residents to comment before the board finalizes budget actions in a subsequent meeting.
