Council accepts $12,100 AARP grant to pilot additional senior transit route

The Andover City Council on May 26 approved a $12,100 grant agreement with AARP through its Community Challenge program to fund an additional transit route in partnership with Butler County Department of Aging.
Assistant City Administrator Jolene Graham explained the grant will subsidize driver and fuel costs for a route that will run three days a week from about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and that Butler County Department of Aging and the Andover Senior Center will help operate and collect usage data. The grant requires no local match and will run through Dec. 15, 2026; staff will report ridership and participant data as part of the ACC feasibility study and to evaluate whether a permanent route is warranted.
Council members praised the partnership and asked for early reporting on ridership; staff confirmed Butler County will collect trip data and that the senior center will track participation.
