The Township of Cedar Grove council approved an amendment to the redevelopment agreement for the 36 Cliffside Drive project that reflects an increase in the site's affordable unit total and confirms the assumption of the agreement by the current developer.
Township staff described the action as cleanup connected to the municipality's fourth-round affordable-housing settlement: the redevelopment agreement originally reflected 57 affordable units and the amendment adds 12 additional units as part of the settlement, bringing the total to 69. Staff said the current urban renewal owner (named in the amendment) will proceed to the planning board with amended site plans and the additional affordable units.
The council approved the assumption and amendment unanimously. Staff characterized the vote as administrative cleanup to align contractual and bonding responsibilities with the project's present status and to allow the developer to move forward with planning-board applications.
What this means: The amendment updates the legal and financial obligations tied to public improvements and bonding for the redevelopment site; project approvals and planning-board review remain required prior to construction.
Next steps: The developer will present amended plans to the planning board; the township will monitor bonding, public-improvement obligations, and planning-board review as the project proceeds.
