Board approves $5.72 million playground upgrade for elementary schools

The board unanimously approved a $5,720,65 purchase to replace and upgrade playground equipment at Burl, Bernie, Toledita and Washington elementary schools as part of Measure S work and district capital planning.
Dr. Alurn presented visuals and plans showing multi-level play towers, accessible swings and collaborative play zones. He told the board the vendor’s designs had been reviewed with each principal and that swings and fall-height compliance were part of the site-by-site planning.
Officials said all eight elementary campuses will receive new equipment over the Measure S timeline; the board approved the first four campuses now because those sites are not currently under DSA projects. Board members asked about existing features such as gaga pits; staff said most existing gaga pits will be removed to accommodate new equipment.
The motion to approve the purchase passed 5-0.
