Saline County Board of Equalization rejects Crete tax exemption, approves valuation notices

The Saline County Board of Equalization on July 8 in Wilber rejected a request by the City of Crete to exempt the property at 139 West 13th Street from 2025 taxation and approved several routine valuation actions.
Vice Chairperson Russ Karpisek presided over the meeting, which was called to order at 9:15 a.m. and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. County Clerk Diann Nettifee recorded the roll: Commissioners Russ Karpisek, Brian Pribyl, Phil Hardenburger and Ray Rohrig were present; Commissioner Stephanie Krivohlavek was absent. Nettifee stated the meeting notice was posted and published on July 2 in compliance with state statutes.
The board approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Commissioner Ray Rohrig, seconded by Commissioner Phil Hardenburger. The minutes of the previous Board of Equalization meeting were approved on a motion by Hardenburger, seconded by Commissioner Brian Pribyl.
The board approved Tax List Correction 2025-07 for Crete Machine, Inc. on a motion by Rohrig with Hardenburger seconding; the motion carried by a 4-0 vote with one absence. The board then considered a request from the City of Crete to exempt the property at 139 West 13th Street from taxation for the 2025 tax year. Commissioner Phil Hardenburger moved to grant the exemption, and Commissioner Ray Rohrig seconded. The motion failed on a 2-2 vote: Vice Chairperson Russ Karpisek and Hardenburger voted yes; Pribyl and Rohrig voted no; Commissioner Krivohlavek was absent.
Afterward, Commissioner Ray Rohrig moved to approve the 2025 Change of Valuation Notices; Commissioner Brian Pribyl seconded and the motion carried by a 4-0 vote with one absence.
With no further business, Karpisek declared the meeting adjourned at 9:40 a.m. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for July 22, 2025, at 9:15 a.m. in the Saline County Commissioners' Room at the courthouse in Wilber.
