Board waives readings, approves personnel lists and summer-school pay revision; public commenter calls for correction of retirement reporting

At its May 28 special meeting, the Wappingers Central School District Board of Education waived formal reading of personnel lists and approved staff actions presented by district staff.

District staff moved to waive the reading of the support-staff personnel list and to approve resignations and a memorandum of agreement recommended by the superintendent; the motion was recorded with a mover cited as "Mister Luminess" and a second by "Miss Callan," and the board approved it unanimously. The board then waived the reading of the teaching and administrative personnel list and approved a revision to the summer-school facilitator salary, with the motion recorded in the minutes as moved by "Mister Loomia" and seconded by "Miss Kellen," and again approved unanimously.

During the public-comment period, a resident who attended a New York State School Boards Association webinar asked to have an item placed on a future regular meeting agenda to correct a newspaper report. The commenter said the webinar clarified that, for the teachers' retirement system Tier 6, employees can retire after 30 years at age 58 and that teachers' contribution rates would remain unchanged; the commenter said reference to reduced contributions in local reporting applied to a different state employee retirement system (ERS). A staff member suggested the district write a letter to the editor to request a correction; members agreed to pursue that step.

The meeting adjourned at 12:09 by motion of "Mister McFarland" with a second by "Mister Lumia."
