Council approves Resolution 2026-10 raising seasonal stipends for pool staff

Crafton Borough Council on May 28 approved Resolution 2026-10, which adjusts salary and wage rates for certain seasonal positions, including staffing at the borough pool and seasonal public-works roles.

Manager Jim Price told the council the increases were accounted for in the 2026 budget and highlighted a change for pool coaches: "we are increasing that $1,000 I mean from $500 to $1,000," he said, describing that coaches previously received a stipend rather than an hourly wage and worked roughly 140 hours over the season.

Council members asked how the stipend structure works and which positions the resolution covers. Price said the resolution applies to pool positions and public-works seasonal staff; crossing guards are covered by a separate wage resolution and were not part of this change. He told the council the stipend arrangement was intended to address coaches who were effectively earning less than minimum wage under the prior stipend amount.

After brief discussion, the motion to adopt Resolution 2026-10 was moved, seconded and approved; one councilor opposed. The council did not identify additional amendments at the meeting.

The resolution takes effect according to the borough’s wage-resolution procedures and, per staff, the salary adjustments were included in the adopted 2026 budget. Staff said more detailed position lists supporting the wage changes are on file with the manager’s office.

The council adjourned without further changes to the wage schedule.
