The Village of Valley Stream presented a series of recognitions during its meeting. Mayor Fair invited Long Island Jewish Valley Stream representatives — director Jason Tan, magnet director Renee Sanchez and Chief Nursing Officer Kate O'Neal — to accept a ceremonial acknowledgment after the hospital received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, an award recognizing nursing excellence.
"This is a very very difficult award to get," Jason Tan said, thanking his staff and crediting a multi‑year effort. Kate O'Neal said the designation affirms the hospital’s focus on safety, nursing autonomy and quality outcomes.
The board also presented citations to residents Frank Romano and Chris Sochi for their response to a March 18 attack on neighbor Dan Kentler; officials said their rapid actions administering first aid and removing the dogs likely saved the victim’s life. Separately the board presented a citation to Olivia Kentler on her retirement after decades of service to the village.
Officials framed these items as ceremonial recognitions; no board votes were required for the presentations.
