Columbia staff and volunteers drafted a proposed charge for a quarterly social-welfare working group to "identify and address social welfare within the community," review what works, surface recurring problems and coordinate referrals to social-service partners.
Meeting participants debated frequency and scheduling, landing on a regular quarter cadence (second Tuesday/Wednesday), and asked staff to finalize and circulate the proposed language before placing it on the Board of Selectmen agenda. "Judy, can you make sure we get that on the board of selectmen agenda for Tuesday to officially approve the charge and create the committee?" one participant asked; Judy agreed to write it up and circulate.
Separately, the group announced a community event, 'Columbia in the Community,' scheduled for August 15 at Rec Park. Speakers said the pantry partnership with Food Share has increased usage and that the town will use an LBC grant to cover most event costs while seeking business sponsorships for activities and family programming.
Next steps: staff will send proposed committee language for review, place the item on the Board of Selectmen agenda for approval, and continue outreach to agencies participating in the August 15 event.
