Alvarado says wastewater plant expansion will boost capacity from 0.6 to 1.4 mgd

Dennis Stewart, Public Works Supervisor for the City of Alvarado, said the city began phase one of a wastewater treatment plant expansion in December 2023 and expects that phase to finish in December 2025.
"We're going from a 0.6 mgd, which is meaning million gallons per day to a 1.4 million gallons per day by the end of this phase one, which should end in December of '25," Stewart said, describing the project’s capacity increase.
Stewart reported construction progress on several plant components: package plants A and B are upright; clarifiers and inner walls have been welded; underlying sewage piping connecting the package plants to the headworks has been installed; and grit removal systems and blower pads have been put in place.
He said the increase in capacity "means for you is that we will be able to service you guys better with more capacity, and will be able to serve future residents of Alvarado as they move in." No budget totals, funding sources or permitting conditions were given in the update. Stewart closed by thanking residents for their patience and saying staff will provide another update at a later meeting.
